60 drawing prompts for kids

Ten on each of six themes. Every prompt describes something that does not exist yet, which means your child cannot get it wrong — the only way to fail one of these is to not draw it.

  1. 1

    Say it out loud

Read the prompt and hand over the paper. No explaining what it should look like.

  2. 2

    Let it be finished

Their drawing of a monster is the monster. Wobbly lines are part of it.

  3. 3

About these prompts

What age are these drawing prompts for?

From about three up. A three-year-old draws a circle with legs and it is a finished monster; a nine-year-old invents rules about what it eats. Both pages are correct.

Do we need special paper or supplies?

No. Plain white paper and anything that makes a mark — crayon, pencil, felt tip. Prompts print fine from your browser if a page each is easier.

What happens to the drawings after?

However many they draw, they can be photographed and turned into a real book at Doodlepedia, where the paper is cleaned up but not one line the child drew is ever changed.

Can we use the prompts more than once?

Yes — a prompt is a question, and the same question gets a different drawing every month. Nothing here runs out and nothing is charged.
